Sprinkle

by School of Commons

Sprinkles are short games and exercises lasting between 5 and 15 minutes that can be flexibly integrated into the SoC program.

Participation is always voluntary, because as soon as something becomes mandatory, the playful element is lost. They create an atmosphere that helps the group build relationships – a key foundation for long-term learning. Essentially, there are three types of Sprinkles: a) Game Sprinkles – short, simple games, b) Exercise Sprinkles – frameworks for connection and reflection, and c) Somatic Sprinkles – somatic exercises. Sprinkles serve various functions within the SoC program: they act as icebreakers to lower barriers, warm-ups to prepare the group for more intensive work phases, energy boosters during longer sessions, and rhythm-setters that make the program feel lighter and more manageable. They also help create the right mood for challenging conversations and support a relaxed ending to intense phases as cool-downs. Sprinkles can be used to introduce variety, or as tools for reflection, helping participants learn from the exercises and gain insights for collaboration. They are not just playful elements, but also instruments for fostering group dynamics and connection, and for supporting the learning process.
