Accretive Meaning Cartography (about Hormones)

by k0 / Safety in Numbers

Accretion is a vital art/research method, particularly accretion of concepts.

During the school of commons kick-off and initial Kitchen Session I already gathered responses to the key question of my project: How Do We Know What We Know About Hormones? (Figure 1)

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of ways of knowing:

  • Accident
  • Advice
  • Carelessness
  • Curiousity
  • Difference
  • Disturbance
  • Experiment
  • Insistence
  • Lies
  • Mythology
  • Normativity
  • Panic
  • Research
  • Shame

There were also write-in responses, and combining these along with a few recent conversations, and Figure 2 is the first pass for the conceptual cartography of this question.

Over the course of the project, I will continue to update this diagram, creating a cumulative landscape that captures the themes and relationships that arise.
