Practices in which groups, collectives, organisations, and/or networks of individuals can operate independently from imposed institutional or corporate structures. 

Self-organised initiatives often have strived to be non-hierarchical and conduct their decision-making processes along the lines of open participatory models. Some have developed counter-economic strategies as an alternative to traditionalist capitalist organisational principles that are exploitative or top-down power dynamics.
